- Necessity – Products that are required for the target market to maintain their current comfort level. Necessity spending is different based on level of income. For example, the necessities to maintian a standard set of living is going to be different for somebody who works 12 hours a day as a legal secretary compared to a stay at home mother who clips coupons to save money on baby food. They both spend money, however the margin for the necessity spending is larger for the person who works as a legal secretary – the legal secretary will more than likely spend a larger percentage of their income on personal grooming products, perfumes, hygienic products for themselves. The stay at home mother may have a higher necessity focused around their children – baby clothing, coupon clipping, health insurance premiums, baby hygienic products, etc. What the stay at home mother considers “entertainment money,” or “extra money,” the legal secretary may consider as “personal lifestyle necessity.” The legal secretary may be required to wear makeup, get professional highlights, etc., whereas the stay at home mother may not wear makeup, and rarely dyes her hair outside of her own sink.
- Entertainment – People who have extra money to spend on entertainment may spend it in one of the following categories; movies, hobbies, upcoming events, dating, books, music, dining, etc.

width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Every article you write should answer the below questions / statements. The more answers you can provide your target market, the better. Remember, your readers are coming for 1 of 3 reasons – to be educated, to be entertained, or out of necessity. It’s critical to provide your readers with as much information as possible to make an informed decision.
One thing to keep in mind – it’s not your job to “sell” a product to your reader. It’s your job to educate the reader about a product or service so they can make an informed decision if that product is the best product / service for them. If you’d like, give your reader different options to help them decide on what is the best product / service for them.
If you’re educating your reader about a specific topic, provide as much details as possible. Give them the opportunity to learn – teaching math and teaching writing are two different subjects. If you’re teaching something that is fact based, then provide the facts. If you’re teaching something that requires critical thinking skills, allow them the room to form an opinion.
If you’re entertaining your reader, provide as much detail as possible. Hopefully, you decide that integrity is important, and give them true and factual information. I’m not going to go too much into entertainment writing – there are plenty of blogs out there that can help you in that field.
